Honda Civic Si Clutch install (8th gen, 2006-2011)
Good morning ladies and gents. Installing a clutch is no small thing that requires a lot of tedious work. For example, you need to deal with mechanical parts, electrical wiring, drilling, etc. So be prepared to get your hands dirty!
First off, you will need several tools. Jack, jack stands, sockets, rachets, extensions, impact gun to name a few. To begin, disconnect and remove the battery. After the battery has been removed, start disassembling the air intake, this needs to be removed as well. Once the intake has been removed, you can move on to the shift linkage. PSA There are a lot of bolts. I would highly reccomend getting zip locks and labeling EVERYTHING. Once you have the shift linkage removed, removed the plug next to it. There also is a small grey plug on top of the transmission bell housing, remove this as well. Next, remove the bolts that hold the slave master cylinder and disconnect the slave master cylinder.
Great, now that we have removed most of the stuff on top, we need to remove other stuff. Jack up the car to at least 20 inches. You need to be able to move freely under the car and be able to remove/drop the trans. Once the car is jacked, you need to suspend the power steering up. You can drop the power steering or suspend it up, that is your discretion. I personally did not want to drop it and reinstall it. I suspended it. Of course, it did not stay suspended and fell from the steering rack. So my steering was very off when the installation was finished. I ended up taking off the airbag and correcting the steering position. Not sure if this was the right method, but it worked for me. Alright getting back to it, you need to remove the subframe/bolts. Next, remove the front motor mount. Next, remove the driver and passenger axles. There is a shield on top of the passenger half shaft. I actually had quite a difficult time removing the half shaft. It was stuck for some reason. I even used a crow bar to remove it, didn't work. I think I forgot a bolt that was holding it in and then I removed the bolt then eventually the halfshaft. Next, remove the stuff near the transmission mount. Then remove the transmission mount. Next, remove all bolts that bolt into the transmission into the engine. The trans is now ready to be removed! Drop the trans carefully. Next, remove the clutch. Next, install new clutch and flywheel. I reused my flywheels, I was able to get it resurfaced. If you would like to save some money, I recommend this. Unless your flywheel is in terrible condition, then don't. Work backward to install everything back together! Remember to install all the bolts correctly and torque every single bolt. This is a big part of the car so you want to torque every single bolt touching the clutch, transmission, engine, etc.
Goodluck!
